ClubSpotting with Geraldine McLaughlin

If you don’t succeed at first, try, try, try, try, try and try again! That was the case for Donegal star Geraldine McLaughlin who received her first All-Star award at the 6th time of asking. One of the countries top forwards, she could be forgiven for thinking the day might never come and most would argue it is an award that should have been bestowed upon her long ago. Racking up 2-22 in the 2021 championship the Termon star was in scintillating form. This week we went ClubSpotting with the All-Star winner to Termon.

What are your first memories of your club Termon?

My favourite memory would have to be winning the All-Ireland final in 2014. We had loads of good days but that day stands out. Winning the Ulster final in 2010 also stands out for we were 5 points going into injury time.

Who were your sporting idols growing up?

Mo O'Donnell would be someone that I would have looked up to.

What has been the proudest moment of your playing career?

There are few but captaining Termon to the All-Ireland is a huge highlight.

Toughest opponent you have faced?

Sharon Courtney we would have had some great battles against each other she is a tough and fair marker. I would get it tough at training marking Nicole, Emer, or Evelyn.

Best player you have played with?

Niamh Mc Laughlin.

Any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

I would be an organised person I would pack my bags a few days before games and always have a good night's sleep before games.

What are your hopes and ambitions for 2022?

Hope for Donegal to push on to win back the Ulster title and to win the All-Ireland.
