Budget 2023 revealed some €35 million will be made available to sports clubs to help fund energy-intensive activities held over the Winter, such as heating changing rooms and powering floodlights.
The package will offer fuel and energy supports to clubs who are feeling the pressure of the current energy crisis, and help them to support their athletes throughout the coming months in preparation for the new year.
Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath stated the funding is part of a wider €60 million allocated to aid local sports clubs and other voluntary organisations to tackle rising energy costs. The budget for the sports sector increased by approximately €8 million, bringing the total allocation to €43 million.
Sport Ireland is currently working on a framework for the allocation of this funding. Make sure your club committee keeps up to date with The National Governing Bodies of Sport, who will communicate details in due course.
